Struggling English Championship club Millwall on Wednesday sacked head coach Joe Edwards after just three months in charge.

Edwards, 37, was appointed as Gary Rowett's successor at the start of November for his first job in senior management but won only four of his 19 matches.

The London club have slumped to 21st in England's second tier, just one point above the relegation zone.

"This has of course been a very tough time and it is not a decision that we have taken lightly," Millwall chairman James Berylson told the club's website.

"Joe has worked incredibly hard during his spell with us and it is with sincere regret that the move hasn't worked out for both parties in the way we had anticipated.

"I cannot praise him highly enough for his professionalism, standards, values, and work ethic."

Neil Harris, a former player and manager at The Den, has been strongly linked with a return for a second spell in charge.
