Club bans France's Novillo for two games after domestic probe
Melbourne City has suspended its French star Harry Novillo for two A-League matches and fined him following an investigation into a domestic incident, the club said on Friday.
While the incident, which took place in the early morning of Tuesday this week, has not resulted in criminal charges, the club said it had found a significant breach of the requirements set out in the league's National Code of Conduct.
The club said Novillo failed to uphold professional standards off the field, failed to behave in a manner that promotes the highest standards of integrity and failed to properly explain his absence from a club training session.
Melbourne City said it has applied the maximum sanction available to it under the code of conduct and suspended Novillo for two matches and fined him 50 percent of one week's wages.
Melbourne's The Age newspaper this week reported that Novillo was placed in handcuffs and escorted by police from an inner city apartment tower following an altercation with his partner.
No charges were laid against the 24-year-old after police responded to a request from a 23-year-old woman, who was in a distressed state, the newspaper said.
