Sturridge injury 'not serious', says Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp played down the extent of a knee injury sustained by England striker Daniel Sturridge that kept him out of Saturday's 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur.
Sturridge, who recently returned to action after five months out with a hip injury, was not included in the squad as Liverpool drew at White Hart Lane in Klopp's first game in charge.
Klopp this week lost both Danny Ings and Joe Gomez to serious knee injuries, but he said that Sturridge's problem was not of the same magnitude and expressed hope that he will be fit to face Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday.
"We had a bad week with injuries this week. The best news is it's not a serious thing with Daniel, but in a week like this with two ACL (anterior cruciate ligament injuries), you cannot risk," Klopp told reporters.
"Daniel had a little one-on-one situation with Jordon Ibe in training. I didn't see it, but after there was a little pain in the muscle by the knee. I'm not the biggest specialist for this.
"We made a diagnostic. We screened him only to be sure. You can see a little bit of swelling, but it's nothing really serious so we have to see. I hope he's ready to play on Thursday, but I don't know."
