Bayer's Drmic gets nod to face Atletico
Swiss striker Josip Drmic got the nod to start for Bayer Leverkusen as coach Roger Schmidt named an attacking side against Atletico Madrid in Wednesday's Champions League last 16 first-leg match.
Drmic scored Leverkusen's opener in their 2-2 draw at Augsburg on Saturday and his inclusion against the 2014 Champions League finalists leaves former Germany striker Stefan Kiessling on the bench.
He forms a potent force alongside Korean left wing Son Heung-Min, Turkish dead-ball specialist Hakan Calhanoglu and Germany's Karim Bellarabi.
There were no surprises from Atletico coach Diego Simeone, with the strikeforce of Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann looking to add to their tally having already claimed 37 goals between them this season.
Leverkusen have never won a last 16 tie in the competition's current format and were humiliated by Barcelona, in 2012, and Paris St Germain last season at the same stage of the competition.
In contrast, Atletico are looking for a sixth straight clean-sheet as they look to repeat last year's feat of going all the way to the final.
